Unesco World Heritage
The valley through which France’s longest river, the Loire, flows, is a listed Unesco World Heritage site. Its wild banks are teeming with a fascinating diversity of fauna and flora.
There are all sorts of ways to explore the river and its surrounding areas, including by bike, traditional boat, kayak or Segway: an unforgettable experience awaits!
From the vines to the wine cellars, oenological insights to tours of the wineries, savour these wines – in moderation of course,
but with all the curiosity they arouse too.
Cour Cheverny AOP (Protected Designation of Origin) white wines are unique and distinctive, made from the Romorantin grape variety which King Francis I of France brought to Loir-et-Cher. Cheverny AOP red wines, meanwhile, are traditionally made from a blend of grape varieties. The fruity reds give precedence to Pinot Noir, a varietal which thrives in the local climate and endows them with body and finesse. The floral and fine whites are a blend of Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
The International Garden Festival in Chaumont-sur-Loire has been an annual highlight from late April to early November since 1992. This truly is an event worth seeing, both in the daylight and at night!
30 miles away you’ll find Beauval, ranked the world’s 4th most beautiful zoo, where you can admire 35,000-plus animals over a 44-hectare estate.
How about taking in the wonders of the Loire Valley from the skies? There are several hot air balloon ride bases in the vicinity. We’d be delighted to share the contact details of the nearest companies with you, so please just ask us!
If you’re an avid golf player, there are 4 golf courses within easy reach (between 25 and 40 minutes’ drive away): at La Carte, Château de Cheverny, La Bosse and Les Bordes.
Last but not least, for history buffs, every October the City of Blois hosts the famous “Rendez-vous de l’Histoire” event where enthusiasts can rub shoulders with prominent historians.
